What Is A 3 Phase Solar Inverter?

The inverter is a key component of the solar system. Its function is to convert the direct current (DC) generated by the solar panel into alternating current (AC) that can be used by the home and the power grid. The 3 phase solar inverter is a common power supply device for medium and large commercial, industrial and power station level solar systems. Unlike the common single phase inverter, it can output 3 phase AC power, which is suitable for loads with higher power requirements.

What is a 3 phase solar inverter?

The 3 phase solar inverter is a device that converts the direct current (DC) generated by solar panel into 3 phase alternating current (AC). The 3 phase solar inverter consists of three live wires and one neutral wire. Its output voltage is generally 380 volts. Taking the common 3 phase four-wire system as an example, it contains three phase wires (commonly known as live wires) and one neutral wire. The voltage between the phase wires is called line voltage. In China's industrial electricity standards, the line voltage is usually 380V; and the voltage between the phase line and the neutral line is the phase voltage, which is generally 220V. The 3 phase solar inverter is the key bridge connecting the solar power end and the power consumption end by virtue of its ability to convert DC into this specific 3 phase AC power. It is the core component to ensure the widespread application of solar energy. The 3 phase solar inverter can combine multiple single phase inverters to output higher voltage and current, which is suitable for large-scale solar power systems.

How does a 3 phase solar inverter work?

The 3 phase solar inverter is a power system composed of three AC power with the same frequency, equal amplitude, and phase difference of 120°. How does it work in the whole system?

Rectification:

If the inverter input is AC power, it will be converted into DC power through a rectifier bridge to prepare for the subsequent inverter link. However, in solar power systems, solar panels usually directly output DC power into the inverter, so not all 3 phase solar inverters include a rectifier link.

Inversion process

DC-AC conversion: The DC power output from the MPPT module will enter the power conversion module, and the conversion is completed by the inverter bridge circuit mainly composed of high frequency switching devices (such as IGBT or MOSFET). Take the 3 phase bridge inverter circuit as an example: 3 phase alternating voltage is generated by alternating on and off of 3 groups (one group for each phase) of power switches. For example, the voltage waveforms of phases A, B, and C differ by 120 electrical degrees in time, forming a symmetrical 3 phase alternating current.

Waveform modulation: The output waveform is optimized through pulse width modulation (PWM) technology to make it close to the standard sine wave, reduce harmonic interference, and ensure the safe operation of electrical equipment.

Maximum power point tracking (MPPT): The output power of solar cells changes with factors such as light intensity and temperature. The inverter adjusts the working voltage in real time through the MPPT algorithm (such as the perturbation observation method and the conductance increment method) so that the solar panel always operates at the maximum power point and improves system efficiency.

Control and protection system

Control system: Use digital signal processing (DSP) technology to implement the control algorithm, receive input and output voltage, current, temperature and other signals collected by sensors, and control the power switch devices according to the preset strategy to ensure that the inverter operates stably and efficiently under different working conditions.

Protection system: It has complete protection functions, such as overvoltage protection, undervoltage protection, overcurrent protection, short circuit protection, overtemperature protection, etc. When the system is abnormal, it will act quickly to cut off the output or take other protective measures to avoid equipment damage and safety accidents.

Advantages of Xindun 3 phase solar inverter:

1. It adopts a stable and reliable power frequency design with stronger impact resistance. This series supports low battery voltage input (compatible with 48V/96V/120V/192V/384V), making system integration more flexible and matching a variety of energy storage solutions such as lead acid batteries and lithium batteries. At the same time, it has 3 input and 3 output functions to meet the operating requirements in complex power usage scenarios.

2. It supports 100% 3 phase unbalanced load, and can operate stably even when the 3 phase load power distribution is uneven. It also supports three times the peak power output, which can easily cope with the start up impact of inductive loads such as motors, air compressors, and refrigeration equipment. The output is a pure sine wave, which effectively protects sensitive electronic equipment and improves the overall energy efficiency and operating life of the system.

3. With an ultra wide voltage anti-interference input range, the system can maintain stable operation regardless of areas with frequent grid fluctuations, unstable frequency or low voltage. It is particularly popular in markets with poor grid environments such as Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, ensuring that customers have uninterrupted electricity and more reliable project operation.

4. Supports built in PWM or MPPT solar charging controller (optional). The MPPT controller uses an efficient tracking algorithm to capture solar energy resources to the maximum extent. It is suitable for application scenarios with frequent changes in light intensity and improves the overall system power capacity.

5. In order to meet the needs of different projects for backup charging capacity, the 3 phase solar inverter provides an adjustable AC charging current of 0~45A, and users can make personalized settings according to the actual battery capacity and charging needs. It effectively prevents overcharging from damaging the battery and achieves more flexible electricity cost control. It is suitable for industrial and commercial customers who need to optimize peak and valley electricity prices during specific periods.

6. Supports RS485 and APP (WiFi/GPRS) communication interfaces to realize real-time viewing of system operation data, alarm prompts, and remote parameter settings on mobile or computer terminals. For contractors and distributors, it reduces operation and maintenance costs, and also improves customer satisfaction and after-sales response efficiency.

Where are 3 phase solar inverters suitable for application?

1. Large residential and commercial buildings: By installing 3 phase solar inverters, large residential and commercial buildings can achieve self sufficient power supply to power internal lighting, air conditioning, elevators, ventilation and other equipment. Reduce dependence on traditional power grids and reduce electricity costs.

2. In industry: it provides stable power support to drive high power 3 phase loads such as air compressors, central air conditioners, and electric welders, which not only improves power supply stability, but also facilitates peak shaving and valley filling with energy storage systems.

3. Agricultural field: In scenes such as agricultural irrigation and greenhouses, 3 phase solar inverters provide stable and reliable power support to help improve agricultural production efficiency.

4. Urban rail transit: Urban rail transit systems such as subways and high-speed railways can use 3 phase solar inverters to achieve the use of clean energy and improve operational reliability and energy saving.

5. Power supply in remote areas: For islands and remote areas, 3 phase solar inverters can provide independent renewable energy supply, enhance energy security and reduce transportation costs.
